Course Overview
e-Pain is a multidisciplinary e-learning programme developed jointly by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the British Pain Society. The programme is designed to improve the knowledge, skills and attitudes of all NHS staff dealing with patients who have acute or chronic pain. Module 2 of e-Pain covers the physiological and anatomical aspects of pain and pain management and makes use of a number of existing sessions drawn from the award winning e-Learning Anaesthesia programme.
Target Staff Group
The target audience for e-PAIN is a broad audience of 'healthcare professionals'. This includes doctors but also encompasses nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, pharmacists and any other healthcare professionals who may become involved in pain management.
Course Prerequisites
By the end of this course you will be able to:
Explain why the biopsychosocial model is more suitable for the management of chronic pain
List the treatment modalities for chronic pain within a biopsychosocial model
Describe the main anatomical and physiological features that contribute to the transmission and subsequent management of pain
